Workshop:     Broadening the Scope of Architectural Creativity—BSAC 2009

Chairs:              Greg Andonian

The purpose of the workshop is to contribute to the advancement of creative architectural discourse on History, Theory and Criticism and juxtapose them against the contemporary challenges of Urban Design, Information Technology, and Building Materiality. The interdisciplinary nature of the workshop will invite scholars and practitioners from various disciplines to discuss scenarios pertaining to the Culture of Peace, Quality of Life, and Sustainable Development from the emerging European perspective. The broad scope of architecture workshop will serve as a forum for debate amongst academics and hands-on designers to articulate global issues, to highlight regional concerns and to advance collective consciousness. It will attempt to project position clarification via case studies to harmonize the theoretical realm of design with the pragmatic domain of building construction. It will promote thought provoking and thoughtful making of architecture.

In compliance with the current conference theme on Thought in Science and Fiction, the workshop will attempt to foster the dialogue between science/technology as the necessary condition for the design of built form and fiction/narrative as the sufficient condition for the embodiment of storytelling of architecture in order to manifest their mutual dependence. Scholars in the disciplines of Language, Philosophy, Anthropology, Psychology and Religion are invited to this workshop to make a contribution to broadening the scope of architectural creativity from their respective fields.
