Workshop: Religion and Science

Chair: Ramazan Bicer

Religion is a set of systems in which rituals, doctrines, sentiments, institutions and other similar elements are interconnected, whereas science is the study of the physical world and what happens therein.

Religion deals with every aspect of human life and regulates it in the light of revealed knowledge, whereas science deals with material life aspects of. Both religion and science claim to hold the truth, one through revelation and the other through observation and experiment. The relationship between religion and science has fluctuated with time and place. The Galileo affair has long been taken as symbolic of an inherent conflict between religion and science.

This panel will examine the interface between scientific thoughts and various aspects of religion, with a special emphasis on the ways in which physical and social sciences have inflected on religious sciences.

In this workshop we welcome papers to focus on thought in religion and science including religious science, fictions, philosophical, theological and ethical aspects as a tool to build bridges between religion and science or conflict, thus showing the compatibility and complementarity between these two fields.
