Workshop: Painting the Science and the Fiction

This workshop will investigate and present contemporary and historical approaches to the depiction of science and fiction through the medium of painting. It will also explore the idea of painting as science as well as art. The workshop will concentrate on the practice of painting as a vehicle for the philosophical exploration of scientific thought.

The workshop invites papers and presentations of works and research which explore this theme and welcomes art historians and artists to present new insights. The presentations and papers will be expected to explore not only science and art, but also the role of narrative, representation or abstraction in our understanding of painting.
