Workshop: Narrative as the Idiom of Truth

Chair: K. L. Verma

The trend today is to make an eclectic and a composite approach. An ‘All-inclusiveness’ is the order of the day. This entails ‘Reality’ and ‘Ideative’ both. ‘Narrative’ is the word, and also a mode and a process in taking such a standpoint. Narrative, today, alone could possibly reach after and apprehend the truth. Such a Narrative combines well Literature with Anthropology, Science with psychoanalysis. A new genre is emerging as Narrative which blends fiction with nonfiction. Narrative and Life have become coterminous, an inseparable correlate. Narrative with its amplitude, its subtleties and nuances is both ‘temporal” and ‘spatial’ in its form and includes tension, irony, ambiguity, and paradox: all contradictions resolve themselves and find oneness of expression in it. To prove our point, we can specify the study of Narration in 20th century Criticism and Theory, in Modern Poetry and also in the Modern 20th century Novel.

The workshop designs and envisages to study the nature and scope of the Narrative, how it proves itself as a means to attain and identify ‘truth’.
