Workshop: Corporate Social
Responsibility and Sustainable Development
Chair:
Rodica Melina Zaharia
The World Business
Council for sustainable development states, “Corporates’
social responsibility is the continuing commitment by business to behave
ethically and contribute to economic development while improving the quality of
life of the workforce and their families as well as of the local community and
society at large.” Thus, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is part of the
process of development, and businesses are organizations that have to be seen
as partners in their communities and not only as profit centers, promoting the
interest of their shareholders but having obligation towards various
stakeholders.
Under these circumstances, several questions arise: what
kinds of relationships do connect corporate social responsibility and
sustainable development? What role should and can national institution play in
sustaining sustainable development and firm efficiency? What kind of
partnerships should be developed between business and different categories of
stakeholders to address efficiently to companies as well as to community needs?
This workshop intends to explore the
possible answers to these questions and even further then them. Papers that
come up to various aspects regarding these questions, original research and
interdisciplinary approaches are welcome.
